Why get vaccinated against pneumonia?

Winter is the peak season for respiratory infectious diseases, and pneumonia poses a particularly significant health threat to the elderly. There are many types of bacteria that can cause pneumonia, with one of the more common being “Streptococcus pneumoniae.” The good news is that this type of pneumonia can be prevented with a vaccine.

Vaccination is also recommended by the World Health Organization to prevent pneumococcal infections. Especially for the elderly, getting vaccinated is one of the most effective preventive measures and is highly recommended.

What is the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine?

“23-valent” refers to the vaccine’s ability to cover the 23 most common and virulent serotypes of pneumococcus. It can effectively prevent invasive pneumococcal diseases caused by these serotypes, offering significant protective effects.

Who is eligible for the public benefit program?

Individuals who meet all the following criteria only need to pay a 10-yuan vaccination service fee to receive the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine for free:

① Registered as a resident of Chengdu;

② Aged 60 or above on the day of vaccination;

③ Have no contraindications for pneumococcal vaccination.

Special Note: Elderly individuals who have received a pneumococcal vaccine within the past 5 years do not need to be vaccinated again.
