After ten years since the release of the “Water Ten” policy, another important water management document has landed. Recently, the “Beautiful Rivers and Lakes Protection and Construction Action Plan (2025—2027)” was officially released, developed jointly by several departments.

When we speak of beautiful rivers and lakes, we recall the endless beauty described in poetry, with visions of clear rivers and lush banks where fish swim near the surface. From a development perspective, beautiful rivers and lakes signify well-protected water resources, environments, and ecosystems, significantly enhancing the public’s sense of ecological satisfaction, happiness, and safety, achieving harmony between humans and water.

Beautiful rivers and lakes are a concentrated expression and an important carrier of ecological environment in the vision of a beautiful China. Since the initiation of the construction of beautiful rivers and lakes in 2021, phased progress has been made, selecting 94 exemplary cases such as Maozhou River in Shenzhen, Yundang Lake in Xiamen, and Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang.
