The 3rd National Skills Competition will be held from September 19 to 23 in Zhengzhou, Henan. Guangdong Province will send 116 contestants to participate in all 106 competition categories. As a city with a strong pool of skilled talent, great importance has been attached to this competition. After provincial selections, 20 contestants from the city will represent Guangdong in 20 events, including 12 WorldSkills selection events and 8 national selection events.

This national competition, themed “Skills Illuminate the Future,” features 106 events covering advanced manufacturing, modern services, information technology, modern agriculture, and other fields. Among them, 66 are WorldSkills selection events, serving as the national trials for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, and 40 are national selection events.

All 20 contestants from the city were selected through provincial competitions, with the youngest being 18 years old and the oldest 47. One institution alone is sending 8 contestants to participate in industrial design, cloud computing, jewelry processing, and other events.

“In preparation, we have moved training sessions to actual enterprise production lines and formed a coaching team including 15 international-level judges and 20 industry technical experts to develop personalized training plans for each event. Comprehensive support has been provided in terms of training facilities, equipment, and psychological counseling.”

The preparation closely aligns with the development direction of local industrial clusters, especially in events such as cloud computing, industrial design technology, blockchain technology, and integrated circuit engineering. The city’s industrial foundation in innovation-driven sectors, high technology, and creative design has been fully leveraged. High-quality resources from vocational colleges, leading enterprises, and high-skilled talent training bases have been effectively integrated. Industry-leading standards, materials, and technologies have been actively introduced during training to build a stage where skilled talents can fully showcase their abilities.

3rd National Skills Competition

The 3rd National Skills Competition is a major vocational and technical skills contest in China, designed to promote excellence in skilled trades and crafts. Historically, such competitions are rooted in the country’s efforts to build a high-caliber workforce to support its industrial and economic development.

WorldSkills Competition

The WorldSkills Competition is a global event that showcases vocational excellence, where young professionals from over 80 member countries compete in skilled trades and technologies. It was founded in 1950 in Spain to promote technical education and has since grown into a major international movement. The competition highlights the importance of skilled professions and aims to inspire youth to pursue technical and vocational training.

industrial design

Industrial design is not a physical place but a professional practice focused on developing mass-produced products with an emphasis on form, function, and user experience. It emerged as a distinct field during the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the need arose to improve the aesthetics and usability of machine-made goods for a growing consumer market. The profession continues to evolve, integrating new technologies and human-centered approaches to shape the objects we use every day.

cloud computing

Cloud computing is a modern technological paradigm that emerged in the early 2000s, evolving from earlier concepts like grid and utility computing to provide on-demand access to shared computing resources over the internet. It enables users and businesses to store, manage, and process data remotely in scalable data centers, eliminating the need for local infrastructure. This model has revolutionized how digital services are delivered and consumed, forming the backbone of much of today’s internet economy.

jewelry processing

Jewelry processing refers to the artisanal and industrial techniques used to transform raw materials like precious metals and gemstones into wearable adornments. This ancient craft dates back thousands of years, with evidence of sophisticated jewelry-making found in civilizations like ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Modern methods now combine traditional handcrafting with advanced technologies such as laser cutting and CAD design.

blockchain technology

Blockchain technology is a decentralized digital ledger system first conceptualized in 2008 by the anonymous entity Satoshi Nakamoto to serve as the public transaction ledger for Bitcoin. It has since evolved into a foundational technology with applications far beyond cryptocurrency, including supply chain management, digital identity, and smart contracts. Its core innovation is creating trust through cryptographic verification and consensus mechanisms without the need for a central authority.

integrated circuit engineering

Integrated circuit engineering refers to the technical discipline of designing and fabricating microchips, which are the fundamental components of modern electronics. The field originated in the late 1950s with the invention of the integrated circuit by Jack Kilby at Texas Instruments and Robert Noyce at Fairchild Semiconductor. This engineering discipline has since enabled the exponential growth of computing power, leading to the digital revolution and the proliferation of devices from smartphones to supercomputers.

vocational colleges

Vocational colleges are educational institutions that provide practical skills and training for specific trades or careers, rather than academic degrees. They have existed for centuries, evolving from medieval guild apprenticeships into formalized schools during the Industrial Revolution to meet the demand for skilled labor. Today, they offer programs in fields like healthcare, technology, and skilled trades, preparing students for direct entry into the workforce.
