Hyderabad, The Telangana High Court has granted permission for the Batukamma festival to be held near the Bhagyalakshmi Temple in the old city on the upcoming 23rd of September. The permission comes with certain conditions to maintain law and order. Under the conditions, only women will participate in Batukamma, and individuals with criminal backgrounds will not be allowed. Additionally, no VIPs should be invited, and the Batukamma event must be completed between 4 PM and 5:30 PM.
A petition challenging the police’s denial of permission to hold Batukamma near the Bhagyalakshmi Temple was heard today. The Additional Government Pleader argued that holding Batukamma near the temple could create law and order issues. It could also cause inconvenience to visiting tourists.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that in October 2024, permission was granted for Batukamma at the same location with certain conditions. The judge intervened and asked if any undesirable incidents occurred during last year’s Batukamma event. The Additional Government Pleader responded that no incidents of any kind occurred during the event.
