The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) is organizing the Jakarta Illumination Island event on Pramuka Island in the Thousand Islands. This event is part of the celebrations for Jakarta’s 498th anniversary.

The festival was officially opened on Monday evening (June 2, 2025) and will run until June 8, 2025.

«This festival is an effort by the Jakarta Provincial Government to revitalize tourism in the Thousand Islands, particularly Pramuka Island, through artistic light installations, captivating visuals, and innovative multimedia performances,» said a representative during the opening ceremony at the Thousand Islands Administrative Regency Plaza.

The representative highlighted several key locations for the art installations, including the Pier, Regency Plaza, and Child-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces (RPTRA). Visitors can expect a visually stunning experience.

«We believe this visual spectacle will not only entertain but also foster pride in our local potential,» they added.

Through this festival, the organizers hope the Thousand Islands will gain recognition not just among local tourists but also internationally. Attendees were encouraged to help preserve the islands’ natural beauty.

«Let’s make the Thousand Islands a premier destination through collaboration, innovation, and unity,» the representative urged.

The festival was described as a unifying event and the first of its kind in the Thousand Islands. It is expected to boost economic activity in the region.

«This event will attract many visitors, especially from now until June 8, and will leave a lasting memory of these innovative activities in the Thousand Islands,» another official remarked.

They expressed hope that similar events would be held regularly in the Thousand Islands, possibly rotating among the 11 inhabited islands.
