The conflict between traditional base motorcycle taxi drivers (opang) and online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) regarding passenger pick-up and drop-off in the Pondok Ranji Station area, South Tangerang, has finally ended peacefully.
Both parties met in a mediation facilitated by the police, community leaders, and representatives from the online motorcycle taxi company.
The meeting, which took place in a warm atmosphere at the East Ciputat Police Station, concluded with a symbolic handshake and hug between representatives of the traditional and online drivers, signifying a commitment to peaceful coexistence.
During the mediation, each party expressed their grievances and complaints that had previously caused friction in the field.
The East Ciputat Police Station Chief explained that through this mediation, an online taxi passenger with the initial K, who had recorded the conflict, decided not to file a report and had forgiven the traditional driver involved.
“However, the person in question is still required to report to the East Ciputat Police Station for the common good,” he said.
According to him, this peace agreement serves as an important lesson that communication is key.
“We are happy to have resolved this without violence. This is a victory for everyone. The East Ciputat Police Station always prioritizes the principle of ultimum remedium, meaning criminal law is used as a last resort when other resolution steps are not achieved,” he said.
Now, the traditional and online drivers in the area have agreed to form a joint communication forum so that every problem can be resolved through dialogue, not emotion.
“The actions taken by the East Ciputat Police Station are to maintain security, order, and the common good. We ask for the support of the community so that efforts to maintain public security and order can run optimally,” he stated.
The East Ciputat Police Station also urges the public to report any criminal acts or disturbances to public security and order.
