45 journalists have been killed in Yemen since the conflict began in 2015.

SANAA, Yemen – Forty-five journalists have been killed in Yemen since the fighting erupted between the internationally-recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group in 2015.

On World Press Freedom Day, it was reported that 165 press platforms stopped working and 200 local and Arab news websites have been blocked since 2015.

The group did not accuse any party of being behind attacks and violations against journalists.

There were calls for all parties to stop violations against journalists and ensure freedom of journalism in the country.

Yemen remains divided into three zones of influence — the legitimate government supported by Saudi Arabia, the Houthis backed by Iran, and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) supported by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since military intervention by the Saudi-led Arab coalition in March 2015 following the Houthi’s seizure of the capital, Sanaa.

About: Sanaa

Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with its history dating back over 2,500 years. Renowned for its unique architectural gems, including multi-story tower houses built of rammed earth (pisé), Sanaa’s Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. The city’s ancient roots are reflected in its bustling souks, historic mosques like the Great Mosque of Sanaa, and a densely built urban core that has retained its medieval character.
