This afternoon, the body found on Mount Rausu in the Shiretoko Peninsula of Hokkaido was identified as a 26-year-old man from Tokyo who had been attacked by a bear.
On Mount Rausu in the Shiretoko Peninsula, a male hiker was attacked by a bear yesterday morning and went missing. Around 1:30 PM today, his body was discovered in the mountains, approximately 200 meters from the hiking trail.
According to police, the body was transported to the Shari Police Station, where family members confirmed the identity as Keisuke Soda, a 26-year-old office worker from Tokyo.
Three bears—a mother and her cubs—were exterminated near where the body was found. Authorities are investigating whether these were the bears responsible for the attack.
