The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) raided the home of a civil servant from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Depok as part of an investigation into alleged corruption related to the 2024 Hajj quota. During the raid, an Innova Zenix vehicle was seized.
“Regarding the search conducted at the residence of a Ministry of Religious Affairs civil servant in Depok, the team secured one four-wheeled vehicle,” said a KPK spokesperson.
The spokesperson confirmed that the vehicle is now at the KPK headquarters and emphasized that the investigation into the alleged corruption case is ongoing.
“The vehicle seized during the Depok raid was an Innova Zenix,” they added.
The raid took place earlier today at the civil servant’s residence in Depok.
The case has now progressed to the investigation stage, though the KPK has not yet named any suspects. So far, three individuals have been barred from leaving the country, including former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ).
The travel ban was imposed because their presence in Indonesia is required for the investigation. The restriction will remain in effect for the next six months. Yaqut and the two others are currently listed as witnesses.
In this case, Yaqut was questioned last Thursday for approximately four hours.
The core issue involves the diversion of half of the additional 20,000 Hajj quotas allocated during Yaqut’s tenure. During a press conference, a KPK deputy revealed that the additional quota was obtained after negotiations with the Saudi Arabian government.
The KPK stated that redirecting half of the additional quota for special Hajj programs violated regulations. Hundreds of travel agencies were reportedly involved in managing the additional quota with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
“Yes, we are investigating the distribution process. There were dozens, if not over a hundred, travel agencies involved,” explained an acting KPK deputy during a press briefing.
The deputy further clarified that the allocation of the additional quota was based on the size of the travel agencies.
“Larger agencies received bigger allocations from the 10,000 quota, while smaller ones were given 10 or similar amounts. The distribution was adjusted according to the agency’s capacity,” they said.
