Education, Research and Innovation in Steel Technology to Get Boost, Industry-Academic Collaboration to Get New Direction

Hazira (Surat). ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting education, research, innovation, and industry engagement.

This partnership is intended to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia, develop a future-ready workforce, and encourage practical research to accelerate India’s industrial development.

The collaboration combines AM/NS India’s global industrial expertise and extensive experience in the manufacturing sector with IIT Roorkee’s academic and research excellence. Together, both institutions will promote talent development, technological innovation, industrial competitiveness, and research-based solutions.

Under the MoU, both institutions will jointly develop and run academic programs, executive education, professional development courses, and workforce transformation initiatives. Additionally, collaboration will take place in areas such as industry-focused consulting services, technical advice, problem-solving projects, and technology assessment.

The partnership will also encourage activities such as research, innovation, technological development, intellectual property creation, publishing, and technology transfer.

AM/NS India will advance this collaboration through its industry-integrated academic initiative, NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology).

NAMTECH aims to bridge the gap between education and industry by building future-capable talent through experiential learning, industry-based curricula, and solving real-world problems.

The CEO of AM/NS India stated that India’s industrial transformation requires deep collaboration between industry and academia.

He said that together with IIT Roorkee and NAMTECH, the company will work towards preparing skilled human resources aligned with future needs, accelerating research, and strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of the manufacturing and steel industry.

The Director of IIT Roorkee described this collaboration as an important step in transforming academic research into industry-oriented outcomes.

He said that the combination of IIT Roorkee’s research capability, AM/NS India’s industrial expertise, and NAMTECH’s industry-integrated learning model will help realize the goal of a developed India.

A board member of NAMTECH said that this partnership will create new opportunities for experiential learning, practical research, and innovation-based solutions that align with the evolving needs of the industry.

This MoU will lay the foundation for long-term collaboration and provide a new direction for innovation, talent development, and technological progress in India’s manufacturing and steel sectors through continuous dialogue and partnership between education and industry.

IIT Roorkee

IIT Roorkee, located in Uttarakhand, India, is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions. It was established in 1847 as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering, later becoming the first engineering college in India to be granted university status in 1949, and was renamed a premier Indian Institute of Technology in 2001. NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology)

NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology) is a skill development institute based in Ahmedabad, India, founded in 2019 by industrialist Gautam Adani. It focuses on providing hands-on, industry-aligned training in advanced manufacturing and technology fields to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical industry needs.
