Woman dies after falling into lift shaft in Hyderabad, infant injured
Hyderabad, In Bhavani Apartments located in Anand Nagar Colony under Khairatabad police station limits, a woman died and her 15-month-old grandson was injured after accidentally falling from the fourth floor into an elevator shaft yesterday evening.
Police reported that Radha (57), a resident of Bhavani Apartments, opened the elevator grill door to descend from the fourth floor with her grandson Joy yesterday evening. At that time, the elevator was not present on the floor, and as she opened the door while carrying her grandson in her arms to board, she fell into the elevator shaft due to the absence of the lift.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and rescued the seriously injured Radha and her grandson with the help of the Hydra rescue team. Both were sent to NIMS Hospital, but Radha succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. Her grandson remains in critical condition.
It is reported that due to poor maintenance of the apartment and lack of elevator servicing for a long time, the elevator cables had rusted. As a result, the elevator was not functioning properly. Additionally, Radha’s family had moved to Uppal just five days prior, and she was also scheduled to go to Uppal in a few days. Based on the complaint received, police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNS and are investigating.
