Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already caught attention with his explosive batting in the IPL. Known for his ability to play big shots from the very first ball, this young batter earned a spot in India’s senior T20 team as a reward for his performances. However, Vaibhav claims he is not just a short-format cricketer but is also preparing himself for Test cricket.
In a conversation with Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder, Vaibhav commented, “Many people ask me if I want to play Test cricket in the future. I tell them that I am already practicing regularly with the red ball. I have played many red-ball matches for my state and continue to do so. I am ready to play Test cricket.”

Regarding his batting style, Vaibhav stated that many assume he is only comfortable playing T20s because of his aggressive approach. But in reality, he can adapt to the demands of any format. Vaibhav said, “I also want to play red-ball cricket. In T20s, I bat that way because boundaries and sixes are needed more. I will play according to what the format requires. Playing for India in all three formats is my dream. The rest is in God’s hands.”
Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar at just 12 years old. In 2024, during an Under-19 Test against Australia, he scored a century off just 58 balls, setting a record for the fastest century among Indians. The following year, he scored another century against Australia in Brisbane. He is also the first Indian batter to score two centuries in Under-19 Tests. Many, including Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin, have praised Vaibhav’s ability to play Test cricket. According to them, Vaibhav could succeed for India in all three formats in the future. Ashwin even suggested that Vaibhav could be given a chance as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in India’s Test team. Cricket experts have also advised capitalizing on the young batter’s current form. And Vaibhav himself has made it clear that he is fully prepared to take on the challenge of Test cricket.
