WhatsApp users on iPhone, who have been waiting for an organizational feature that was first available on Android, are now getting a new interface that radically changes how they manage their conversations. This comes after the new chat lists became available with app version 26.21.74.

Technical reports indicate that the feature reached the App Store and the TestFlight version at the same time. However, due to the company’s culture of rolling out features gradually, even those officially announced, it is expected to reach more users in the coming weeks.

This feature, called WhatsApp chat lists, introduces default conversation filters including ‘Favorites’, ‘Unread’, ‘Groups’, and ‘Communities’. Additionally, users can create custom lists to group specific conversations according to their preferences.

  • The problem the update solves: All lists used to appear in a horizontal row at the top of the chat tab, causing clutter for users with many custom lists.
  • The new solution: With the new interface, users can choose which lists remain visible at the top and which ones are moved to a secondary filter list.

The update also includes a new default list called ‘Drafts’. This list contains all conversations where the user started typing a message but then left without clearing the input field or sending the message.
