Depok –
Police arrested four individuals, known as ‘eagle eyes’ (matel), in Depok, West Java, for forcibly confiscating a motorcycle belonging to an online motorcycle taxi driver with the initials HZ (31). The suspects monitored the victim through a vehicle license plate tracking app to locate their target.
The Beji Police Chief, Commissioner Josman, explained that the suspects hid in a location to observe the victim. According to the suspects, the victim had defaulted on motorcycle loan payments for three months.
“Their method involves waiting on the road while identifying potential targets. They claimed the victim failed to fulfill their payment obligations, with three months of overdue installments,” he stated.
The suspects then forcibly seized the victim’s motorcycle.
“Based on that, they proceeded with the forced repossession. However, the issue arose when the victim resisted surrendering the motorcycle, leading to coercion and confiscation,” he added.
Josman stated that the suspects were charged under Article 368 of the Criminal Code and/or Law No. 42 of 1999, as well as Article 30 of the Fiduciary Law.
“Under the Fiduciary Law, if loan payments are unpaid, the leasing company can repossess the collateral with court approval or a ruling. However, our investigation found no court decision in this case, meaning they acted on their own will,” he explained.
He further detailed that the suspects tracked the victim by monitoring passing motorcycles and cross-referencing data through an app.
“They checked the license plate numbers and tracked the motorcycle’s movements. The app, linked to the Samsat (vehicle registration) database, provided details on vehicles with outstanding loans, including addresses and routes,” he said.
The four suspects, identified as FS, DD, DN, and KT, were taken to Beji Police Station for further investigation. They face charges under Article 368 of the Criminal Code and/or Law No. 42 of 1999, carrying a potential prison sentence of over seven years.
