DNO – Sisters and athletes from Da Nang, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc and Nguyen Thanh Ngung, extended their national championship streak by winning gold medals in the walking events at the 2025 National Athletics Championships held on their home turf.

The walking events at the 2025 National Athletics Championships were held at Dam Sen Park (Ngu Hanh Son District). A large crowd gathered to watch the 20km walking events for men and women.

In the women’s event, seven athletes competed in the finals, including Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, Nguyen Thi Van (Da Nang), Thai Thi Kim Ngan, Nguyen Thi Linh Ly (Dak Lak), Ho Thi Van (Nghe An), Pham Thi Thu Trang (Hanoi), and Huynh Thi Diem (Quang Ngai).

With the experience and skill of Vietnam’s top female racewalker, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc surged ahead, establishing a commanding lead from the starting line. Throughout the 10 laps, she dominated the race unchallenged.

She crossed the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 39 minutes, and 40 seconds, securing the gold medal. Notably, this marked her 19th consecutive national gold medal.

Thanh Phuc celebrated her victory with fans after finishing first with a time of 1 hour, 39 minutes, and 40 seconds.

Similarly, her younger brother, Nguyen Thanh Ngung, excelled in the men’s event, winning gold with a time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 37 seconds.

In addition to Thanh Ngung, eight other athletes competed in the men’s finals: Vo Xuan Vinh (Da Nang), Tran Le Hoang (Thai Nguyen), Do Huu Duc (Dak Lak), Huynh Minh Tuan (Quang Ngai), Truong Quang Linh, Sam Minh Huan (Thai Nguyen), Mai Nguyen Hoai Bao (Gia Lai), and Phung Kim Quang (Hanoi).

Thanh Ngung maintained his lead from the first lap to the finish line, securing his 15th national gold medal.

Dam Sen Park
