The Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI) Tarutung Branch supports the transformation of the Tarutung State Christian Institute (IAKN) into the Tarutung State Christian University (UKN).

This support was conveyed by the GMKI Tarutung management for the 2026–2028 term, who were recently inaugurated, during a visit and audience with the Rector of IAKN Tarutung, Dr. Haposan Silalahi, on Friday (June 5, 2026).

The meeting became a strategic moment to strengthen synergy between the student organization and the higher education institution in supporting student development.

The audience also served as an important first step for GMKI in building institutional relationships with campus leadership, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to act as a critical, strategic, and solution-oriented partner in supporting the transformation of IAKN into UKN.

The Chair of GMKI Tarutung Branch, Amos Derebi, emphasized GMKI’s commitment to being a strategic partner for the campus in supporting various student development programs and institutional progress.

“GMKI Tarutung Branch is ready to be a strategic partner and collaborate with the IAKN Tarutung campus, as well as support the status upgrade of IAKN Tarutung to UKN Tarutung,” he said.

Amos stated that the campus should be a learning home, while GMKI serves as a student laboratory for leadership development, academic quality improvement, character strengthening, community service, and competency development towards producing graduates who are excellent, with integrity, and competitive.

The Rector of IAKN Tarutung, Dr. Haposan Silalahi, stated that the campus is open to building partnerships with all student elements and organizations.

According to him, the campus is a shared space that must provide the widest possible opportunities for students to create, innovate, and develop their potential.

“The campus is ready to partner with all parties. There are no barriers or restrictions. The campus is a place for students to create and express various good ideas for mutual progress. I am also not against criticism. Criticism delivered with valid data and facts is very important for policy improvement. Criticize the policies, not attack individuals,” the Rector emphasized.

The Rector expressed his appreciation for the visit and the collaborative spirit built by GMKI Tarutung Branch. He hopes that the synergy between the campus and student organizations can become a joint force in improving education quality, strengthening student character, and driving institutional progress.

The meeting, which took place in a warm and familial atmosphere, resulted in an understanding to continue building constructive communication, collaboration, and partnership to realize a campus that is excellent, inclusive, and transformative.
