Ahmad Shobier: Van Bommel is the closest candidate to coach Al-Ahly replacing Yess Turob

Shobier confirmed during his statements on “On Sport FM” radio that Dutchman Mark van Bommel is the closest name to take over the technical leadership of Al-Ahly Club in the coming period, noting that negotiations are still ongoing, despite not reaching a final agreement yet.

Shobier explained that the Al-Ahly management recently succeeded in resolving the Turob crisis, which helped accelerate the steps to reorganize the technical and administrative files within the Red Castle, especially with the start of the preparation period for the new season approaching.

Shobier added that there is a surprise related to the new head coach file, but he preferred not to reveal its details at this time, confirming that the management is working with great secrecy to finalize the agreement officially before announcing it to the fans and media.

In a related context, Shobier indicated that Adel Mustafa was present at the Al-Ahly Club headquarters to collect his belongings, after he was strongly nominated to temporarily lead the preparation period if the head coach crisis continued, but things changed after reaching a settlement on the file.

The Al-Ahly management continues to put the final touches on the new administrative structure, which is expected to be announced in the coming hours, as the intention is to appoint Wael Gomaa as the football director, while Essam Serag will handle the contracts file, and Anis Boujleban will manage the scouting sector.

Shobier confirmed that mentioning Mark van Bommel’s name does not necessarily mean the agreement with him has been finalized, citing what happened previously when Al-Ahly was close to contracting with Hossam El-Badry before the management backed down due to widespread fan rejection.

Shobier described the recent period within Al-Ahly as just a “light shake,” confirming that the management seeks to quickly restore stability by resolving pending files and preparing the team to compete strongly in the upcoming season.

The management also faces other challenges related to renewing contracts for a number of key players, most notably Hussein El-Shahat, Afsha, and Kouka, as the club aims to maintain the core squad and meet the needs of the new technical staff.
