Around 11 a.m. on June 3, the man called Nijo Elementary School, located at South 2 West 15 in Chuo Ward, Sapporo, and said, “I’m coming with a knife,” causing school staff to contact police and take measures to protect children, thereby allegedly obstructing their work.

After receiving the call, the school canceled outdoor activities.

According to police, the man called the school from his home. Officers later identified his location during the investigation and arrested him at the police station shortly before 2 p.m. after he voluntarily accompanied them.

During questioning, the man stated, “I might have said something like ‘I’m coming with a knife,’ but I don’t remember.”
