Serdang Bedagai (Sergai) Regent, Darma Wijaya, stressed the importance of implementing the 2026 Economic Census carefully, accurately, and reaching the lowest levels of society.
He made this statement while opening the 2026 Economic Census Officer Training for Sergai Regency at the Pantai Cermin Theme Park Hall on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
In his address, the Regent emphasized that the quality of census data will serve as the main foundation for formulating future economic development policies.
“This Economic Census moment must be thoroughly surveyed down to the grassroots level. The data obtained must be accurate and accountable because it involves all levels of society,” he asserted.
He revealed that Sergai’s current economic conditions show a positive trend, mainly driven by the agriculture and plantation sectors. In 2025, Sergai was even recorded as the region with the highest rice productivity in North Sumatra.
This success, he continued, is inseparable from the improvements and enhancements to irrigation infrastructure that the local government continues to carry out.
Additionally, plantation commodities such as palm oil also contribute significantly to improving the community’s economy. Stable prices of rice and cassava also help increase residents’ income.
“With good commodity prices, people’s purchasing power should increase. However, there are still some issues that need our collective attention,” he said.
The Regent also highlighted the positive impact of the Free Nutritious Meal Program, which is considered capable of opening new job opportunities. He mentioned that around 3,000 workers have been absorbed through this program.
“Agricultural, plantation, fishery, and fruit products now have a good market because they support the Free Nutritious Meal Program,” he stated.
According to him, the 2026 Economic Census plays a strategic role in comprehensively capturing the economic conditions of the community. He hopes the public will support the officers during the data collection process.
“I hope this census runs successfully and receives full support from the community,” he urged.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency for Sergai Regency, Marine Sohadi Angkat, stated that the training aims to enhance the capacity of census officers, both enumerators and supervisors.
The data collection for the 2026 Economic Census will use digital devices such as smartphones and tablets through the Flexible Authentically Survey in Harmony application with the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing method.
“This training is important so that officers understand the concepts, definitions, and technical aspects of filling out the questionnaire, ensuring the census implementation in the field runs optimally,” he explained.
The Head of the Sergai Communication and Informatics Office, Nurcinta Depi Tambunan, confirmed that the training is being conducted in four waves with a total of 593 officers divided into 24 classes.
The training takes place from June 2 to June 14, 2026, at two training center locations: the Pantai Cermin Theme Park & Resort Hotel and the Malibou Hotel in Tebing Tinggi.
Also present at the event were the Head of the Pantai Cermin District, Ferry Fernando Lubis, and the participants of the 2026 Economic Census training.
