DEPOK – The city of Depok has officially been appointed as the sole representative of Indonesia in the regional health competition, the ASEAN Smoke Free Award (ASA) 2026. Carrying out this environmental diplomacy mission, the municipal authority has reportedly completed the final assessment phase, which consisted of an in-depth interview session held virtually from the Depok City Operations Room (DCOR) at Depok City Hall on Tuesday.

This national-level trust was granted because Depok is considered one of the most consistent jurisdictions in enforcing and integrating the draft Smoke-Free Area policy in its region.

Two-Hour Feasibility Test Before Regional Panelists

The Head of the Depok City Health Office stated that this appointment is both a strategic honor and a major responsibility to prove the region’s commitment to creating healthy public spaces free from cigarette smoke contamination.

During the implementation, the rigorous draft assessment, lasting approximately two hours, was led directly by the Deputy Mayor of Depok. Throughout the session, international assessment panelists conducted factual exploration and verification of four main variables of Depok’s Smoke-Free Area governance:

  • Regulatory Architecture: Strengthening the legal basis that serves as the umbrella for enforcing rules in the field.

  • Implementation Accuracy: Consistency in enforcing smoking restrictions in real-world sectors.

  • Community Empowerment: The level of active participation by citizens as independent oversight agents.

  • Local Innovation Draft: Tactical breakthroughs launched to reduce the rate of tobacco product consumption.

Claim of Optimism Based on Mastery of Material

Given the smooth progress of the final question-and-answer session, the management of the Depok Health Office has expressed high optimism about emerging as the main winner and achieving the best results in this Southeast Asian award event. The authority confirmed that all assessment indicators and technical questions posed by the evaluation team were successfully debated and answered comprehensively, supported by the presentation of valid data.

“We are very optimistic that Depok City can secure the highest achievement at the ASEAN Smoke-Free Award 2026. All question instruments were successfully executed and presented very well by the delegation team. The track record of hard work across sectors is authentic proof of the firmness of our Smoke-Free Area commitment in the regional eye,” concluded the Head of the Depok City Health Office.
