The victim was identified as Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso by the Aklan Police Provincial Office spokesperson. The suspect, Councilor Mihrel Senatin, has been arrested.

“The victim, who is the Vice Mayor of Ibajay, was pronounced dead by the attending physician. The suspect, an SB Member, is now in the custody of Ibajay Municipal Police Station,” the spokesperson stated.

According to the police report, around 9:15 a.m., Senatin entered the Sangguniang Bayan Office to request copies of local ordinances passed during his term.

Senatin allegedly approached Estolloso and said, “Vice, what did I do wrong to you?” before pulling out a gun and shooting the victim.

Estolloso sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Ibajay Police chief mentioned that witnesses reported hearing six or more gunshots.

A .9 mm caliber firearm was recovered from the crime scene.

Authorities are still verifying whether Senatin had a permit for the gun, which he allegedly took home after the shooting.

“This unfortunate incident is deeply concerning, especially as it involves individuals who serve the public in positions of trust,” said the regional police chief.

“We recognize the sensitivity of the matter and extend our thoughts to everyone affected, especially the families and communities involved,” he added.
