The doorstep childcare and parenting support is expanding and improving! Guangdong launches the “Sunflower Parent-Child Room” project for 2026.
On May 22, a themed promotional service event was held in Zhaoqing City, with the theme “Promoting a Positive View on Marriage and Childbirth, Spreading Scientific Childcare Concepts.” Leaders from the Provincial Health Commission, the Provincial Family Planning Association, the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the Zhaoqing Municipal Government attended the event.
The event featured the launch of the 2026 “Sunflower Parent-Child Room” project, the flag presentation ceremony for the family planning association service teams, donations to the birth care fund, and the reading of a proposal for a new marriage and childbearing culture. Additionally, a series of cultural performances such as skits, allegro, situational dramas, and songs and dances were used to vigorously promote optimized birth policies, positive views on marriage and childbirth, and scientific parenting concepts. More than 10 service booths were set up simultaneously, offering activities like promotional consultations, parent-child classes, and free medical consultations, attracting many people to actively participate.
To address the difficulties and bottlenecks faced by the public, such as a lack of parenting knowledge and challenges in finding temporary childcare, the Guangdong Family Planning Association is vigorously promoting the construction of “Sunflower Parent-Child Rooms” across the province. It is fully implementing the “Parenting Wisdom” parenting course and standardizing services such as parent-child guidance and community-embedded “parent-child rooms plus temporary childcare” to enhance the level of scientific parenting in families, alleviate parenting anxiety, support the construction of an affordable childcare service system, and promote early childhood development.
Among them, some districts in Guangzhou and Shenzhen have achieved the goal of “one room per street,” while eight cities including Foshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing are each building more than 10 this year. Eight cities are conducting parent-child service counselor training, five counties (districts) have included this in their livelihood projects, and some cities and counties have incorporated it into the “Hundreds, Thousands, and Tens of Thousands Project” and the local childcare service work joint conference system.
During operation, the “Sunflower Parent-Child Rooms” provide parent-child guidance focused on seven themes: nutrition and feeding, sleep, daily living and hygiene habits, motor skills, language, cognition, and emotional and social development, as well as four special topics: traditional Chinese pediatric massage, parent-child reading, music and movement, and sports games, to improve parents’ scientific parenting skills. To ensure long-term operation, the “Sunflower Parent-Child Rooms” are scientifically divided into zones, equipped with professional staff and facilities, and have sound management systems, continuously improving their scientific and professional standards.
As of now, more than 700 “Sunflower Parent-Child Rooms” have been built across the province, covering all 21 cities. They have conducted over 42,000 activities, benefiting millions of people, and have created a childcare base right at the doorstep of the public.
