On May 26, at a conference in Chongqing on comprehensively promoting high-quality development of the manufacturing industry, data released by the Municipal Economic and Information Commission showed that from January to April this year, the city’s industrial added value above designated size grew by 4.5%, industrial investment increased by 8.7%, exports of mechanical and electrical products rose by 35.3%, the number of industrial clusters worth 100 billion and 500 billion yuan increased to 9 and 4 respectively, and the output value of strategic emerging industries exceeded 1 trillion yuan.

In recent years, during the iterative upgrade of the “33618” modern manufacturing cluster system, through clustering chains to enhance capacity, a batch of “Made in Chongqing” industrial products have seen both production volume and market share rise, including the city reclaiming the top spot in domestic automobile production after nine years; laptop production ranking first globally for 12 consecutive years; fiberglass production entering the top three domestically; and the entire industrial chain, represented by “Zhangxue Motorcycles,” supporting champion motorcycles, among others.

In areas such as technological industry innovation, digital-intelligent empowerment for quality improvement, and tiered enterprise cultivation, a number of “Made in Chongqing” achievements have emerged. For example, 49 industrial innovation complexes were selected for the national “14th Five-Year Plan” science and technology innovation and industrial innovation integration achievement exhibition; the average annual growth rate of industrial technology transformation investment was 8.8 percentage points higher than the national average, and the city was selected as a national pilot for new technological transformation for two consecutive years; it cultivated 8 national chain-leading enterprises, with the number of 10-billion and 100-billion-yuan industrial enterprises increasing to 37 and 3, respectively.

A representative from the Municipal Economic and Information Commission stated that during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, the city will aim to basically build a competitive advanced manufacturing center with international influence and an industrial innovation center with national influence, consolidate and expand the competitive advantages of the “33618” modern manufacturing cluster system, and promote the total industrial output toward 4 trillion yuan. This will be achieved by continuously enhancing the supporting role of the industrial main engine, comprehensive industrial competitiveness, industrial innovation capability, the driving force of digital-intelligent industrial transformation, industrial value creation, and enterprise ecological dominance, while striving for continued improvement in the high-quality manufacturing development index.
