The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has driven a very high demand among the public for information on programs, policies, and activities of the Jakarta Provincial Government. The Jakarta Provincial Government is required to meet these needs by establishing appropriate information and communication service facilities that are quickly accessible.

At the end of 2000, an idea emerged from the Public Relations Bureau of the Jakarta Provincial Government to provide data and information services to the public by forming Jakarta Cyber. This facility was planned to be placed in several strategic locations and would be operable by the public. However, unfortunately, before it could be operated, Jakarta Cyber failed to materialize. The discourse on establishing an appropriate information service facility continued. Eventually, the Electronic Data Management Office, which later became the Information Technology Management Office, together with the Public Relations Bureau of the Jakarta Provincial Government, agreed to create a website. Initially, the official news website of the Jakarta Provincial Government was named Jakarta News. However, because that name was already taken, the website’s name changed to beritajakarta with the address www.beritajakarta.com.

The management of this website was carried out independently by involving professional staff. Precisely on the 474th Anniversary of Jakarta City, on June 22, 2001, the beritajakarta website was inaugurated by the Governor of Jakarta, Sutiyoso. Along with that moment, beritajakarta solidified its commitment to ensuring the accuracy of data and information by upholding three positionings. The first positioning of beritajakarta is as a reference media. The second positioning is as a clarification and opinion-forming media. Meanwhile, the third positioning of beritajakarta is as a balancing media.

Over time, beritajakarta has made innovations and improvements by presenting a new, more dynamic, and attractive appearance. Various news content, photos, and videos are presented with a combination of orange, gray, and black colors, making the website more pleasing to the eye. In 2017, the beritajakarta website address changed from www.beritajakarta.com to www.beritajakarta.id. Since then, beritajakarta has grown rapidly by changing its logo, appearance, and adding features to attract public reading interest. Particularly, the interest in knowing the implementation of programs, policies, and activities of the Jakarta Provincial Government quickly, accurately, and in real-time.

As the official news website of the Jakarta Provincial Government, beritajakarta continues to make various innovations and developments. As a result, on the celebration of the 493rd Anniversary of Jakarta City, on June 22, 2020, beritajakarta launched a digital audio-visual channel called beritajakarta.tv. This digital channel was born from the desire to provide information services to the public through creative video content containing educational messages. This creative video content is packaged as attractively as possible in various programs such as Petantang Petenteng, Mpo Sapa, Ngobrol Tengah Hari, and Jurnal Kebon Sirih.

At the beginning of 2024, beritajakarta did not rest on its laurels and continued to innovate by changing the website’s appearance while developing the Lenggang Jakarta, Wawancara Khusus Loka Urban, and Paras Kota features. In the future, beritajakarta will continue to strive to provide various information and communication services regarding the implementation of programs, policies, and activities of the Jakarta Provincial Government, including the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives, in an actual and professional manner.
