To have money to spend, a 19-year-old girl in An Giang sold her jewelry and motorbike, then went to the police station to falsely report that she was robbed by a group of 5 people.

On May 19, the Vinh Te ward police in An Giang province said they are working with N.N.O. (19 years old, residing in O Lam commune, An Giang province) regarding the act of making a false report to an agency or organization with authority.

Previously, on the evening of May 16, O. went to the Vinh Te ward police to report that she had been robbed. According to the report, at around 5:15 PM on the same day, O. was driving a motorbike to the Canal 5 bridge area, in group 14, Vinh Dong hamlet, Vinh Te ward, when she was suddenly blocked by 4 young men and a woman with a Northern accent on 3 motorbikes, who threatened and robbed her.

The young woman said she was robbed of a motorbike, a pair of earrings, an 18K gold necklace, a mobile phone, and 1.5 million VND in cash. The total value of the property was about 42 million VND.

Upon receiving the report, the Vinh Te ward police conducted an investigation, verification, and collected relevant evidence. However, through a scene inspection, cross-referencing traces and O.’s testimony, the police found many inconsistencies that did not match the reported content.

After persistent questioning, O. admitted that the robbery did not occur as she had reported. Because she needed money for personal expenses, the girl sold the property and fabricated the robbery story to report to the police.
