On May 26, in response to concerns raised by “media reports of the deliberate vandalism of the Martyr Cao Jinku Memorial,” the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province issued a report. The details are as follows:
Upon verification, the Martyr Cao Jinku Memorial Monument was established in 1999 in the Xianju Martyrs’ Cemetery, managed by the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County. The reported stele was autonomously established by the local government of Qiu Mountain Township (according to regulations, martyrs’ memorials are to be established by the people’s government at the county level or above). Due to the stele and the road leading to it being located in a geologically hazardous area, considering the risks and hidden dangers, the township government, after communicating with the local village committees, removed it, and the road was closed and marked with warning signs.
Next, the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County will further communicate and clarify with the relatives of the martyrs and the villagers, and strengthen the standardized management of all the county’s martyrs’ memorials.
