Depok – A man is suspected of stealing a motorcycle by renting a boarding house in Cimanggis. Police are investigating the case.

“(The modus) is looking for a boarding house and then borrowing the victim’s vehicle,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Depok Metro Police, AKP Made Budi, in a statement on Sunday (May 17, 2026).

This case went viral on social media. Police explained the alleged theft occurred on Thursday (May 14) at 1:45 PM local time in Cimanggis, Depok. The victim is a tenant and trusted by the boarding house owner.

Initially, the perpetrator approached the victim under the pretext of renting a boarding house. The perpetrator paid a down payment of 200 thousand rupiah.

“Then the perpetrator asked to buy Padang rice and instructed the victim’s child, with initial A, to buy Padang rice. When A went out to buy food, the perpetrator excused himself to buy a light bulb,” he said.

After A bought food and passed by before the boarding house, the perpetrator stopped the victim’s vehicle. The perpetrator borrowed the victim’s vehicle under the pretext of wanting to buy something.

“But after waiting, the perpetrator never returned,” he said.

The victim then reported the case to the Cimanggis Police. Currently, the case is still under investigation by the police to pursue the perpetrator.
