After the assembly election defeat, PTR distanced himself from politics.
Chennai, Former Tamil Nadu Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan announced on Monday that he would take a break from active public life following his defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Thiagarajan contested as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate from the Madurai Central constituency. He stated that he would use this break to focus on his health, deliver lectures internationally, and complete his upcoming book to be published by HarperCollins. He also noted that Tamil Nadu politics has certainly entered a ‘new era’.
In a detailed statement released on social media, Thiagarajan recalled a decade of public service and said this break would allow him to address pre-scheduled international lectures in the US, Europe, Singapore, and Australia, which he could not undertake while serving as a minister. Acknowledging his defeat to the candidate from ‘Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK), the former Finance and IT Minister said his passion for public service remains undiminished. He said, ‘I am accepting the reality that I will not be an elected representative for some time. I will return with renewed energy and freshness.’
