• A tragic road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar district turned joy into mourning early Monday. A tempo carrying people heading to an engagement ceremony on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was violently hit by a speeding container truck. At least 13 people died in this horrific accident, while more than 25 others were seriously injured. According to police, the accident occurred near Dhaniwari village in the Kasa area around 4 AM. The tempo trolley was carrying about 100 people, who were going to attend the engagement ceremony of Balram Jayaram Dandekar, a resident of Bapugaon Khadkipada village.

    Suddenly, an oncoming container truck lost control and crashed violently into the left side of the tempo. The impact was so severe that both vehicles overturned, and the tempo was completely destroyed. Chaos erupted at the scene, and many people were trapped inside the vehicle. Upon receiving news of the accident, local residents, police, and rescue teams arrived at the scene. The injured were pulled out and taken to the hospital. According to the administration, several people died at the scene, while some succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

    The tempo trolley was moving in the wrong lane

    Preliminary investigations have revealed that the tempo heading to the wedding ceremony was moving in the wrong direction on the Mumbai-Gujarat lane. Additionally, the vehicle was overloaded with more people than its capacity, which made the accident even more severe. A motorcycle was also caught in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Suresh Ratna Lakhmat, Pandu Ganpat Lakhmat, Kalu Govind Lakhmat, Sunil Arjun Dandekar, Chima Govind Kurhada, Namita Vitthal Dandekar, Sarika Santosh Lakhmat, Ayush Sitaram Lakhmat, Sagar Namdev Shende, Vandana Shivram Valvi, Saloni Shivram Valvi, Ajay Ahadi, and Riyanshi Santosh Lakhmat.

    CM Devendra Fadnavis announced compensation

    Among the injured, 14 people have been admitted to Vedanta Hospital in Dahanu in critical condition, while other injured are being treated at Kasa Sub-District Hospital. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the accident and announced financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased. The district administration has appealed to people that if anyone needs information, they can contact Dr. Sachin Waghmare.
