Amma Canteens are famous in Tamil Nadu

With the aim of providing tasty and quality food to the people of the state, the AIADMK established Amma Canteens during its rule. No government has closed them since, but questions have always been raised about the quality of food provided. Now, taking those complaints into account, CM Vijay has ordered the renovation and modernization of all Amma Canteens.

How many Amma Canteens in the state?

CM Vijay of Tamil Nadu stated in his order that currently, 383 Amma Canteens are operated under the Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation. Amma Canteens

Amma Canteens are a network of government-subsidized food outlets in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, first launched in 2013 by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Their name, meaning “Mother Canteens,” reflects the aim of providing affordable, nutritious meals to the urban poor, with prices kept extremely low to combat hunger and malnutrition. The initiative has been widely praised as a successful model for food security and has inspired similar programs in other Indian states.
