On May 26th, in response to concerns raised about “media reports on the destruction of the martyr Cao Jinku’s memorial facilities,” the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, issued a situation report. The details are as follows:
Upon verification, the martyr Cao Jinku’s memorial monument was established in 1999 at the Xianju Martyrs’ Cemetery and is managed by the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County. The reported stele was independently established by the government of Qiu Mountain Township (according to the regulations on the protection and management of martyr memorial facilities, which should be established by people’s governments at the county level or above). Due to the fact that the stele and its access road were located in a region prone to geological disasters, considering the hidden risks, the township government, after communicating with local village committees, removed the stele and closed the road, setting up warning signs.
Next steps, the Veterans Affairs Bureau of Xianju County will further communicate with the families of the martyrs and villagers, and will enhance the standardized management of all the county’s martyr memorial facilities.
