Yuan Jiajun meets with Hami Party Secretary Sun Tao and delegation

On the afternoon of May 14, Yuan Jiajun, Party Secretary of Chongqing, met with Sun Tao, Party Secretary of Hami, and his delegation.

Chen Xinwu, Deputy Party Secretary of Chongqing, and Liu Shangjin, Standing Committee member, Secretary-General, and Political and Legal Affairs Secretary, also attended.

Yuan Jiajun, on behalf of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, welcomed Sun Tao and his delegation for their inspection and cooperation visit, and thanked Hami for its strong support of Chongqing’s economic and social development. Yuan said that supporting Xinjiang’s Hami region is a glorious task assigned by the central government to Chongqing and a political responsibility Chongqing must fulfill. In recent years, Chongqing has earnestly implemented the Western Development Strategy, fully and accurately implemented the Party’s governance policies for Xinjiang in the new era, and continuously strengthened cooperation with Hami in energy, computing power, and other fields, achieving positive results. Going forward, Chongqing will deepen the implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on paired-up assistance for Xinjiang, focus on the main line of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, base efforts on Hami’s needs and Chongqing’s capabilities, highlight complementary advantages, emphasize coordinated efforts between government and market, strengthen group-based professional assistance, and continuously deepen practical cooperation in education, healthcare, agricultural science and technology, industrial development, and urban governance. This will better promote mutually beneficial and win-win economic and social development between the two regions, jointly creating landmark achievements in paired-up assistance for Xinjiang.

Sun Tao thanked Chongqing for its strong support of Hami’s economic and social development. He said that Chongqing’s paired-up assistance for Hami has opened a new chapter of “assistance plus cooperation” and deep integrated development between the two regions. Hami will fully and accurately implement the Party’s governance policies for Xinjiang in the new era, make every effort to provide service and support for paired-up assistance, learn from Chongqing’s advanced experience, and accelerate the establishment of a work pattern of “promoting cooperation through assistance, promoting development through cooperation, and promoting win-win through development,” better transforming the deep friendship of the Chongqing people into tangible results of high-quality development.

Relevant officials from Hami city and responsible persons from relevant departments of both regions also attended.

Hami

Hami, also known as Kumul, is an ancient oasis city in Xinjiang, China, that served as a vital stop along the northern route of the Silk Road for over two millennia. Historically, it was the capital of the Hami Kingdom, a Uyghur Buddhist state that later became a vassal of the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century. Today, the city is known for its sweet Hami melons and well-preserved historical sites, such as the Hami King’s Tomb and the Hui King’s Tomb, reflecting its diverse cultural heritage.

Chongqing

Chongqing is a major city in southwestern China, known for its mountainous terrain and strategic location at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Historically, it served as the provisional capital of the Republic of China during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) and has since grown into a key economic and cultural hub. Today, it is famous for its spicy hotpot cuisine, futuristic skyline, and as a gateway for Yangtze River cruises.
