The government is now in the hands of the BJP. The main opposition in the state is currently the Trinamool Congress. Since the results of the 2026 elections were announced, the party has lost its momentum, and the foundation of the organization has weakened—the grassroot camp sensed this from day one. Now, to boost the morale of party workers at the grassroots, the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, has stepped into the arena. He stated that this time is a ‘trial by fire.’ In a video message to workers, he also taunted the BJP as a ‘loot government.’

In the video message, the Trinamool MP claimed that 10 party workers have lost their lives in post-election violence. Accusing the BJP of vote theft, Abhishek said, “The way votes were looted in this election. We believe this verdict cannot be the will of the people.” He added, “Those who came to power through looting will not last long in power. Those who influenced the people’s mandate cannot stay in power for long.” He also demanded the release of accurate counting data in the video.

Recalling the struggles of Singur and Nandigram, Abhishek urged Trinamool workers to continue their relentless fight. Describing the situation as a ‘trial by fire,’ he said, “Gold is purified by fire. The party organization and workers at all levels must emerge stronger through this trial by fire. Our weapon is uncompromising struggle, our weapon is a never-say-die attitude, and the unity of workers is our shield.”

Notably, on the same day, Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee approached the Calcutta High Court with complaints of post-election violence. In the video message, Abhishek urged Trinamool workers to fight unitedly, saying, “We must reclaim the party offices.” He called on workers to protest against BJP’s oppression. He also assured, “Wherever you call me, I will surely come,” as the party’s ‘second-in-command.’
