The specialized medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program today completed the fourth and fifth stages of the separation surgery for the Filipino conjoined twins “Klea and Maurisse Ann.” This surgical procedure is considered one of the most complex cases worldwide, lasting 18 and a half hours, and was performed at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital within King Abdulaziz Medical City, under the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh.
The advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and head of the medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, stated that, thanks to God and the efforts of the surgical team members, the fourth and fifth stages of the operation were completed. These stages included reconstruction, cosmetic surgery, and skull closure, following the successful completion of the first three stages earlier.
On behalf of himself and all members of the medical and surgical team, he expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for the support and attention given to the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. This support enabled the medical team to provide the highest standards of specialized healthcare, contributed to improving the quality of life for the benefiting children and their families, and enhanced the Kingdom’s standing in the fields of humanitarian and medical work.
Since its establishment in 1990, the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program has been one of the most prominent medical and humanitarian programs worldwide. It has performed dozens of complex surgeries for twins from various countries, achieving high success rates and reinforcing the Kingdom’s leadership in providing advanced medical care and humanitarian work, through specialized national competencies and advanced medical equipment.
He also praised the efforts of the medical team members and their professional and humanitarian work, which embodies the noble values of the Kingdom and its people in serving humanity wherever they are.
