High-quality development is the primary task in building a modern socialist country in all respects.

“Consciously understanding and better following the laws of economic development” is an important experience in our economic work.

In the first quarter of the start of the “15th Five-Year Plan,” GDP grew by 5.0% year-on-year, significantly rebounding by 0.5 percentage points from the fourth quarter of last year. China’s economy got off to a strong start, with high-quality development moving towards new and better outcomes.

Amid increased external shocks, the resilience and vitality of China’s economy have been further demonstrated. The fundamental reason lies in the leadership of the Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping’s economic thought, in leading new development practices, continuously deepening the understanding of the laws governing economic work, and steadily enhancing the certainty and stability of high-quality development.

In this year’s “first lesson of the year,” General Secretary Xi Jinping taught: “Proceed from reality, act according to laws, and through scientific decision-making and hard work, create achievements that stand the test of practice and history, truly benefit the people, and gain public recognition.”

Understanding the laws, clarifying the direction, learning the methods, and increasing wisdom from the Party’s innovative theories to continuously improve the ability to manage the socialist market economy is the secret to doing economic work well.

From the perspectives of strategic foresight, policy adaptability, and social creativity, we can better decode why China’s economy has strong resilience and vitality.

The certainty of development stems from strategic foresight. Why can China’s economy always “grow in the baptism of wind and rain, and strengthen through trials and tests”? Accurate strategic judgment and scientific planning allow us to face wind and rain without fear and firmly grasp the strategic initiative.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: “When analyzing the situation, we must not only consider all factors comprehensively but also be good at grasping key factors such as changes in the international situation, new technological revolutions, and industrial transformations.”

Guided by the new development philosophy, coordinating domestic and international situations, balancing development and security, strengthening strategic thinking, maintaining strategic focus, and unifying planning for both current and future matters—this is the success of China’s economy.

Understanding the laws and “proactively grasping the impact of international situation developments and changes on China, adjusting and optimizing the economic layout accordingly” allows us to seize opportunities.

Energy is the food of industry and the lifeline of the national economy.

“We must deeply promote the energy revolution, facilitate reforms in energy consumption, supply, technology, and systems, strengthen international cooperation, and accelerate the building of an energy powerhouse,” “continuously promote the transformation and upgrading of energy and industrial structures, and advance the research and application of green and low-carbon technologies,” and “accelerate the construction of a new energy system.”

Since the new era, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China’s energy sector has continuously achieved new accomplishments on the path of high-quality development.

Since the beginning of this year, international crude oil prices have fluctuated sharply, but China’s energy supply remains stable and orderly.

From the transformation and upgrading of fossil energy to the booming development of the new energy industry; from increasing oil reserves to the scientific research on the “artificial sun,” today’s China’s strategic decision to promote the energy revolution and secure the energy supply is based on a scientific assessment of global energy transformation trends, China’s resource endowment constraints, and technological evolution trajectory.

Transforming trend judgments into operable and sustainable institutional arrangements and policy provisions makes China’s economy more stable.

Respecting the laws and “strengthening forward-looking and leading layouts in basic research, cross-cutting frontiers, and key areas” allows us to seize the commanding heights.

As of March this year, China’s average daily token call volume exceeded 140 trillion, an increase of over 40% from the end of last year, marking a phased breakthrough in the commercial large-scale application of artificial intelligence.

The end of AI is computing power, and the end of computing power is electricity. China has made forward-looking plans for grid construction targeting 5-10 year goals. Now, installed power capacity exceeds the total of G7 countries, and power generation accounts for nearly one-third of the world.

In March this year, a magazine article stated that China’s “comprehensive advantage combination” formed in energy, manufacturing, open-source ecosystems

artificial sun

The “artificial sun” refers to experimental nuclear fusion reactors, most notably China’s EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) facility. These devices aim to replicate the Sun’s energy-producing process—fusing hydrogen nuclei into helium—to generate near-limitless clean energy. Since its first operation in 2006, EAST has achieved significant milestones, such as sustaining plasma at temperatures over 100 million degrees Celsius, bringing humanity closer to practical fusion power.

G7 countries

The G7, or Group of Seven, is an intergovernmental political forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It originated in the 1970s as the G6, formed to address global economic crises, with Canada joining shortly after to create the G7. The group meets annually to discuss major international issues, though it has no formal charter or permanent secretariat.
