The Medan District Prosecutor, Ridwan Sujana Angsar, emphasized that his institution is not averse to criticism and remains open to the role of the media in overseeing law enforcement.
This was stated by Ridwan during a gathering with the North Sumatra Legal Journalists Forum on Monday, April 20, 2026, in response to several issues that had emerged regarding the relationship between the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office and the press.
“Our careers up to this point would not have been possible without the support of our media colleagues,” Ridwan said.
During the meeting, Ridwan was accompanied by the Head of Intelligence, Valentino Harry Parluhutan Manurung, the Head of General Crimes, Zulkarnain Harahap, and several deputy heads from the General Crimes and Intelligence sections of the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office.
He explained that during his approximately two months as Medan District Prosecutor, his focus has been on internal improvements to fully understand the organization’s condition before making strategic decisions.
Regarding communication with the media, Ridwan invited journalists to seek confirmation through the Head of Intelligence, who acts as the official spokesperson for the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office.
In response to a proposal to provide a secretariat for journalists within the Prosecutor’s Office, he said this could not yet be realized due to limited facilities and budget.
“It’s not that we don’t want to accommodate, but there are limitations that must be understood together,” he said.
On another note, Ridwan also touched on the handling of several cases, particularly alleged corruption crimes that are currently drawing public attention.
He confirmed that several cases are still in process and will be disclosed to the media once they reach a stage that can be made public.
“They are still in process and cannot be published now. Hopefully, we will expose them soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the North Sumatra Legal Journalists Forum, Ansah Tarigan, appreciated the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office’s openness in building communication with the press.
According to him, the gathering was an important moment to strengthen synergy between legal journalists and law enforcement officials in supporting transparency and accountability in case handling.
“A good relationship between the media and law enforcement is very important so that information conveyed to the public remains balanced and accountable,” he said.
He added that the North Sumatra Legal Journalists Forum is ready to support the work of the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office through professional reporting while adhering to journalistic ethics.
On this occasion, the Medan District Prosecutor also presented a commemorative plaque to the North Sumatra Legal Journalists Forum as a symbol of synergy and good relations between the law enforcement institution and the press.
“This gathering is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the Medan District Prosecutor’s Office and the press, especially the Legal Journalists Forum, in realizing transparent and integrity-driven law enforcement in Medan,” he concluded.
