Indonesia and China have reached agreements on 16 new investment projects, with a total value of 2.19 billion US dollars (approximately 36.4 trillion Indonesian rupiah), covering various fields from base metals and seafood processing to advanced technologies such as drones, batteries, and artificial intelligence.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs stated on Monday that these projects are part of efforts to deepen bilateral industrial cooperation between Indonesia and China under the framework of the “Twin Cities Twin Parks” initiative.
“These projects cover a range of strategic sectors, including base metals, meat and seafood processing, textiles, tea, furniture, drones, batteries, and artificial intelligence,” the minister said in a statement.
He noted that given the market size and industrial strength of both countries, the partnership between Indonesia and China holds significant economic potential.
“This is indeed an important milestone, demonstrating open and extensive cooperation between the two countries. It is a huge market that offers opportunities for businesses and both nations,” he added.
The 16 projects were launched under a memorandum of understanding within the framework of the bilateral cooperation mechanism, witnessed by Indonesia’s President and China’s Premier, and formally signed in May 2025 by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister and China’s Minister of Commerce.
The cooperation mechanism aims to promote downstream industry development, facilitate cross-border investment, and integrate supply chains between Indonesia and China, particularly in manufacturing and resource-based industries.
Looking ahead, the coordinating minister expressed Indonesia’s willingness to engage in deeper cooperation in higher value-added sectors.
“Indonesia welcomes broader cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, logistics, downstream industries, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, food security, healthcare, and human capital development,” he said.
