The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from various sectors.
The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant project commenced construction in 2021, with a total investment of 2.2 billion USD for two units with a total capacity of over 1,300MW. The project is implemented under the BOT model, with Vung Ang II Thermal Power Company Limited as the main investor.
The project utilizes “ultra supercritical” (USC) boiler technology, which experts assess as the most modern technology for coal-fired thermal power plants in Vietnam. This technology will reduce fuel consumption and consequently cut emissions once the plant is operational.
During the construction phase, over 18,600 local and regional workers were employed.
The project’s operation will provide regular employment for over 250 staff and workers at the plant. It is estimated to contribute approximately 1,000 billion VND annually to the state budget, contributing to the long-term economic stability of the region.
It was stated at the inauguration ceremony: The Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant project was initiated in 2007. Over nearly two decades of implementation, the project faced numerous difficulties and challenges. However, through close cooperation and relentless efforts from all parties, the plant officially commenced commercial operation on April 7, 2026.
The plant has the capacity to supply approximately 3.3% of Vietnam’s total electricity demand. Upon operation, the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant will play a crucial role in ensuring a stable power supply, particularly in helping to alleviate electricity shortages in the northern provinces.
It was affirmed at the ceremony that the inauguration of the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant project is not only a source of pride for the achievements attained but also strongly reaffirms the commitment to continue attracting investment and creating the most favorable environment and conditions for investment projects that promote socio-economic development to be successfully implemented in the area.
