Nerima Ward election: Tokyo Governor’s protégé suffers a crushing defeat; inside story of the campaign.
In the Ward Mayor election held on the 12th, Kenichi Yoshida (59), who campaigned as a “completely independent” candidate and expressed opposition to the rebuilding of the ward art museum, won his first term by defeating two opponents.

Ojima was recommended by a local political party and an association. Despite a concerted organizational effort, including daily support visits from ministers, votes could not be sufficiently increased. For the party, this marks another defeat for a recommended candidate within Tokyo, following a loss in a March Ward Mayor election.
At 11 PM on the 12th, Ojima stated, “I thought I had thoroughly engaged in grassroots campaigning, but it was not enough. I failed to fully convey my principles and policies to the voters,” and bowed his head.
