The Architecture and Design Authority has led a broad academic movement, bringing together deans and representatives from more than 22 Saudi universities to chart a roadmap aimed at innovating strategic solutions that enhance the quality of architectural education and meet labor market requirements.

The authority held its third annual meeting for deans of colleges of architecture and design, hosted by King Abdulaziz University, to create a dialogue space for discussing common issues and exchanging institutional expertise.

This comprehensive gathering seeks to produce pivotal recommendations that enhance cooperation pathways in education and scientific research, contributing to improved academic quality at both local and international levels.

Innovating Solutions

It was emphasized that elevating the academic system of the sector represents a “shared responsibility” fundamentally based on sustaining dialogue.

It was clarified during the opening speech that the current phase requires a decisive and actual transition from the realm of exchanging ideas to the field of innovating solutions.

It was explained that previous sessions focused on enabling research groups and measuring readiness, while the current version aims to enhance effective partnerships with various relevant entities.

Attention was drawn to the pivotal role academic leadership plays in building strategic alliances that enrich experience and refine professional practices, aiming to prepare a generation of designers and architects capable of competing globally.

Enhancing Academic Education Quality

The meeting witnessed an open discussion centered on the impacts of partnerships between local and international universities and their role in raising the quality of academic education, through reviewing a number of examples and applications.

Attendees addressed the importance of strengthening connections with government entities and the labor market to ensure students are ready to face challenges and seize available professional opportunities.

Through an open interactive session, the meeting revealed a package of proposed practical solutions, including mechanisms, programs, and partnerships, to form recommendations that academic programs will work to develop.

The events concluded with an emphasis on continuing to develop the education system through partnerships that contribute to elevating the quality of outputs, supporting the preparation of national cadres that solidify the Kingdom’s position on the global architecture map.
