On April 16, a fishing boat registered in China’s Taiwan caught fire approximately 76 nautical miles northeast of China’s Huangwei Islet. There were seven crew members on board. Following the incident, a China Coast Guard vessel on a routine patrol mission proceeded to the area to extinguish the fire on the distressed fishing boat and conduct search and rescue operations. As of now, six people have been rescued, and related rescue work is still ongoing.

The China Coast Guard will continue to protect the lives and property of Chinese fishermen, including those from the Taiwan region, in accordance with the law, and will effectively ensure normal navigation and operational order in the relevant waters.

Huangwei Islet

Huangwei Islet is a small, uninhabited island in the South China Sea, administered by Taiwan as part of the Kinmen County. Historically, it has been used primarily for military purposes due to its strategic location near the mainland coast.
