A Contemporary Art Gallery opened on the 8th floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. We had the special opportunity to visit a pre-opening media preview!

According to the explanation provided, the Contemporary Art Gallery has relocated and expanded the contemporary art hub previously developed at ‘Hankyu Men’s Osaka’ to the Hankyu Umeda Main Store, establishing it as a new permanent gallery space.

The gallery interior focuses on details such as depth, height, and adjustable lighting, prioritizing a space that can accommodate the display of various artworks.

Starting on the opening day, April 8, the inaugural exhibition will be Ryo Shinagawa’s solo exhibition “SPRING’S FLUTTERING,” running until Monday, April 27, 2026.

The artist, who is based in Kyoto, shared, “I am originally from Toyonaka City in Osaka, grew up along the Hankyu line, and have connections to Hankyu Umeda Main Store from childhood shopping trips with my family to working there part-time as an adult. It is deeply moving for me to be holding this inaugural exhibition here.”

There is growing anticipation for its future development as a new art spot in the Umeda area, and it has an approachable atmosphere.
