Before the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a tribute will be paid to the residents of besieged Leningrad.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum kicks off on June 18, and the symbolic start of this event will be the solemn planting of 80 trees and shrubs. Politicians, entrepreneurs, public figures, and athletes have been invited to the event.

The business agenda is not the point here. The action is conducted to honor the past, present, and future, and to remind of values. The event will start at 08:30 on the territory of “Expoforum”.

Apple trees are planted to remind of the resilience and unyielding spirit of the residents of besieged Leningrad and to emphasize the aspiration for revival and prosperity. Each green planting is called a tangible monument by the organizers.

Special attention is also paid to lilacs, the flowers of which only appear on the shoots of the previous year, thus symbolically passing on the baton of life. This feature is said to accurately reflect the process of transferring memory and experience from one generation to another, preserving the thread of continuity.
