Serie A club Napoli is reportedly furious with its striker, Romelu Lukaku, who has not returned to the club after being dropped from the Belgium national team squad.
Romelu Lukaku was initially named in the Belgium squad for international matches against the United States and Mexico. However, he was ultimately dropped as he was deemed not to be in sufficiently good physical condition.
That situation should have led to Romelu Lukaku returning to Napoli to undergo condition monitoring with the coaching staff. He was scheduled to participate in team training sessions to ensure his fitness following an injury.
However, reports indicate that Romelu Lukaku has instead refused to return to Napoli in the near future. He has chosen to remain in Belgium and only plans to return next week.
The former Manchester United striker is known to be undergoing recovery in Antwerp, a location also previously used by Kevin De Bruyne for injury treatment.
This decision has sparked disappointment from Napoli. The club views Romelu Lukaku’s actions as indiscipline for not requesting permission to remain in Belgium.
Napoli is even reported to be considering sanctions against Romelu Lukaku for his attitude. This situation adds to concerns given the player has only recently recovered from injury.
So far this season, Romelu Lukaku has only made seven appearances, scoring one goal for Napoli. The player’s fitness and discipline are now a serious concern for the team nicknamed Il Partenopei.
