The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved a major milestone. The construction of a 100-meter-long ‘Make in India’ steel bridge over an underground metro tunnel in Ahmedabad has been completed.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is an under-construction high-speed rail corridor in India, being developed with Japanese technological and financial assistance. It aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities to about 2-3 hours, compared to the current 7-8 hours. The project, initiated with a 2017 agreement, represents a major step in modernizing India’s railway infrastructure, though it has faced delays related to land acquisition and environmental clearances.

Make in India

“Make in India” is a national initiative launched by the Indian government in 2014 to transform the country into a global manufacturing and design hub. The program aims to attract foreign investment, foster innovation, and create jobs by promoting sectors like automobiles, electronics, and renewable energy. Historically, it represents a major shift in India’s economic policy, building on earlier liberalization efforts to boost domestic production and integrate more deeply into global supply chains.

Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is a historic city in western India, founded in the 15th century by Sultan Ahmed Shah on the banks of the Sabarmati River. It is renowned for its rich architectural heritage, including the intricately carved stepwells and pols (traditional residential clusters), and served as a major center for the Indian independence movement under Mahatma Gandhi. In 2017, its walled city area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptional urban heritage.
