Efforts to accelerate the transformation of business towards a low-carbon economy at the regional level continue to be strengthened. The Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), as the secretariat of the KADIN Net Zero Hub, in collaboration with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of West Java Province, held an Interactive Dialogue Forum and Workshop themed Towards Real Action Driving Business Transformation Towards a Low-Carbon Economy in West Java, in Bandung.

West Java Province is considered to have a strategic position in the national low-carbon transition agenda, given its role as an industrial and economic center, as well as a region with significant potential for new and renewable energy. Through this forum, industry players are encouraged to start identifying emission sources, improving energy efficiency, electrifying production processes, and gradually and measurably utilizing clean energy.

The forum brought together industry players, local government, and development partners to discuss technical strategies and implementable steps for decarbonizing the industrial sector. This activity is part of the Net Zero Hub Roadshow series, which aims to encourage the active involvement of the regional business world in supporting Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target.

It was emphasized that the low-carbon transformation in the industrial sector requires an applicable approach aligned with on-the-ground business conditions.

“The results of this dialogue and workshop will form the basis for follow-up actions in the form of technical assistance, decarbonization project development, and strengthening collaboration between local government, the business world, and development partners,” it was stated.

In addition to policy dialogue, this activity was also complemented by a technical workshop guided by WRI Indonesia as the knowledge partner of the KADIN Net Zero Hub. The workshop encouraged the active participation of attendees in mapping emission sources and identifying decarbonization strategies relevant to their respective companies’ business processes.

One forum participant noted that this activity provides practical understanding for the industrial world.

“As an export-oriented company, the demands for sustainability and emission reductions from buyers are becoming increasingly real. This forum helps us understand the grouping of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The low-carbon transition cannot be done alone and requires cross-sector collaboration,” they said.

It was stressed that the role of the regional business world is key to achieving national climate targets.

“Transformation towards a low-carbon industry is no longer an option but a strategic necessity for companies to remain competitive and sustainable. The business world needs to move from commitment to real action, starting from emission inventory to implementing measurable solutions at the operational level,” it was stated.

From the local government side, it was stated that collaboration with the industrial sector is an important factor in low-carbon development in West Java.

“The West Java Provincial Government opens the widest possible space for collaboration with the business world. The transformation towards a low-carbon economy must go hand in hand with economic growth and increasing regional competitiveness,” it was affirmed.

Through this forum, IBCSD, KADIN Net Zero Hub, and Bappeda West Java hope to generate commitments and concrete action plans from industry players to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon solutions, while driving inclusive and sustainable green economic growth in West Java.
