“Moscow News” was a historic English-language newspaper founded in Moscow in 1930, originally serving as a propaganda outlet for the Soviet government to influence foreign opinion. It underwent significant changes after the collapse of the USSR, briefly becoming a symbol of independent journalism in the early 1990s before ceasing its original print publication in 2014.

Roskomnadzor is the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, a Russian government agency responsible for regulating and censoring the country’s media and internet. It was established in 2008, consolidating several oversight functions, and has become widely known for enforcing Russia’s internet restrictions and laws concerning content deemed extremist or undesirable by the state. Its activities are central to Russia’s information security and media control policies.
