Victim of Abuse in Batu Islands, Mikhaeli Bilham Duha Seeks Justice from Nisel Police Chief to National Police Chief
The alleged assault case involving Mikhaeli Bilham Duha (27) has yet to see legal clarity. The incident occurred on December 23, 2025, at Tello Market, Pulau-Pulau Batu District, South Nias Regency (Nisel), North Sumatra, at around 2:00 PM local time.
Mikhaeli explained that the incident began with a fight between his child and the child of the alleged perpetrator with the initials NH. As a result, Mikhaeli’s child suffered a head injury.
“At that time, I asked the alleged perpetrator to take my child to a community health center or clinic for treatment. However, there was no goodwill. Because I kept insisting, we finally took my child for treatment, but the intended doctor was not available,” said Mikhaeli.
According to Mikhaeli, the situation then escalated. The alleged perpetrator is said to have grabbed him and kicked his abdomen three times, causing him severe pain.
The day after the incident, on December 24, 2025, Mikhaeli went to the Pulau Tello Community Health Center because he was repeatedly vomiting blood.
From the medical examination, he was diagnosed with post-traumatic abdominal injury, suspected to be a result of the assault he experienced.
After undergoing inpatient treatment for several days due to being unable to stand, Mikhaeli reported the incident to the Pulau-Pulau Batu Police Sector on December 27, 2025.
“However, my report was not processed immediately, citing the Christmas and New Year situation as personnel were carrying out security duties. The police report letter was only issued on January 3, 2026,” he stated.
The letter bears the number LP/B/1/I/2026/SPKT/Polsek Pulau-Pulau Batu/Polres Nias Selatan/Polda Sumatera Utara. During that process, Mikhaeli also claimed he was asked to undergo a visum (official medical examination), but it was not done on the day of the report.
On January 5, 2026, accompanied by an investigator from the Pulau-Pulau Batu Police Sector, Mikhaeli underwent a medical examination at Stella Maris Private Hospital in Teluk Dalam. However, an internal medicine specialist recommended that further examination be conducted at a more fully equipped hospital in Gunungsitoli or Medan due to equipment limitations.
Some time later, Mikhaeli was called back to Pulau Tello for mediation with the alleged perpetrator. However, this mediation effort yielded no results.
Subsequently, on January 19, 2026, Mikhaeli received an Investigation Results Development Notification Letter (SP2HP) numbered B/06/I/RES.1.6/2026/RESKRIM, dated January 15, 2026, signed by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Nias Police as the investigator on behalf of the South Nias Police Chief.
The letter explained that the reported case constitutes a general crime and not a special crime, so its handling remains with the Pulau-Pulau Batu Police Sector.
Furthermore, the case review results stated that two pieces of evidence had not been met, so it could not yet be escalated to the investigation stage.
Mikhaeli claimed to have repeatedly traveled back and forth from Pulau Tello to Teluk Dalam, even visiting the South Nias Police Headquarters to seek legal certainty for his report, but so far it has not yielded results.
Given these conditions, Mikhaeli Bilham Duha publicly appeals for attention and justice from the National Police Chief, the North Sumatra Regional Police Chief, and the South Nias Police Chief.
“I earnestly plead with the National Police Chief, the North Sumatra Regional Police Chief, and the South Nias Police Chief to help me obtain justice. Until now, the alleged perpetrator is still free and feels immune to the law,” he said.
