The Indonesian automotive industry exceeded its 2025 sales target. Despite being shadowed by uncertainty, the domestic four-wheeled market managed to “step on the gas” at the end of the year.

Based on wholesales data from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries), car sales from January to December 2025 reached 803,687 units. This figure is down 7.2 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
Although down compared to last year, car sales in Indonesia throughout 2025 met the target. This is partly thanks to December’s performance, which rose 26.9 percent from the previous month.
Not only at the wholesales level, but performance at the retail sales level (direct sales to consumers) was also equally impressive. Throughout 2025, as many as 833,692 car units changed hands into consumers’ garages. This figure is still down 7.2 percent year-on-year.
As mentioned earlier, the most dramatic surge occurred right at the finish line. In December 2025, public shopping enthusiasm exploded with sales figures reaching 94,100 units, or growing 26.9 percent compared to the previous month for wholesales. Meanwhile, retail sales reached 93,833 units.
December typically always sees an increase in sales. The tradition of year-end promotions and public enthusiasm for the long holidays appears to be the main fuel that sent December sales soaring.
This achievement means the national car sales target has been met. Previously, Gaikindo had targeted sales to reach 780 thousand units.
Although the target was only just met in 2025, Gaikindo is not rushing to set a figure for 2026. Gaikindo is still formulating the target for 2026.
“It will still be discussed with the members,” said the Chairman I of Gaikindo.
