Rents for family-oriented apartments in Sapporo continue to rise. According to private sector research, the average rent (50-70 square meters) in November of this year was 97,812 yen. This is the highest level since statistics began being collected in 2015, making it realistic that rents will exceed 100,000 yen next year. This is due to rising construction costs and property maintenance expenses amid high inflation. As condominium prices also increase, there are growing concerns among households with children that “the number of properties they can afford is limited.” In response, there is a noticeable trend of increasing family-oriented housing, such as through renovations of properties originally intended for single occupants.
